digital projection

Hi class, I'm sick of the Art Center teacher/student liason website because it totally doesn't work, so I'm putting up this post so you can make your own psd file of the line and color aspects of the in class setup on Monday and see for yourself what I'm talking about with this 'digital projection' idea. Click on each image and then copy and paste them both into a photoshop file. Put the line over the color and change the layer options of the line from 'normal' to 'multiply'; this let's you see both layers at once. So with the original, analog painting, and the digital projection I can easily see where things are supposed to go according to my 'better' line drawing. It's a simple but very useful trick to know! works with any type of line drawing or even photo reference. shhh, it's a secret just for you guys! ahahahah

LOCATION 1: Art Center Hillside Campus, SEPTEMBER 16TH

I think we all know where this spot is, let's meet at the bottom of the stairs down from the student parking lot and go from there! Bring all sorts of ways to record information: a camera, a sketchbook, drawing materials, a portable easel and painting supplies (any media you are comfortable and familiar with, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, oil). We'll walk about with an active eye looking for interesting compositions. It's an adventure!

LOCATION 5: Pick Your Park, NOVEMBER 11TH

Pick Your Part

I've decided to have us meet at Pick your Part after all, but just as a place to rendezvous. Unfortunately you can't take pictures inside the wrecking yard so there's no much reason to go in, but when I drove around a little, there was a lot to look at and sketch and paint in the area, very industrial. So lets go for it, it's a kind of grubby part of town but that's part of the appeal. In order to avoid too much traffic, lets meet in the parking lot at Pick your Part at 9:30am. The address is 11201 Pendleton St, Sun Valley 91352

LOCATION 6: Union Station/Olvera Street/Chinatown, NOVEMBER 25TH

Let's meet at Union Station at 9am for our final paintout/photo-sketch safari, it's on Alameda in downtown Los Angeles, 810 N Alameda St. 90012. There are pay parking lots around Olvera Street and in Chinatown, and Union Station has a lot. The lots vary in price from $3 to $6 so bring a few bucks. I plan to park somewhere nearby and then carry my gear to the front of Union Station. Rather than meet right on Alameda St, let's instead meet just back from the street at the main entrance to Union Station and then head out from there
